Given the insane exponential surge in the number of Apps and App Developers over the past couple years, it has become virtually impossible to generate legitimate revenue from PAID Apps. Given so many alternatives out there, people simply don’t want to pay for Apps any more, especially when they can get the same features and functionalities for FREE. I’m not saying anything new here – that’s a proven fact. So many App Developers are going homeless these days because they quit their job in the hopes of making a Zukerberg-esque living from selling Apps and In-App-Purchases, only to find out that you have to spend twice as much on advertising and promotions, just to generate pennies on the dollar, which after you deduct the marketing expenses, results in negative net income. That’s the whole fuckery of the App business, and it takes a whole lotta guts to stay in the game despite all the failures. Take it from me, I’m currently living this reality myself.
Hate being redundant, but Cloud Computing is the FUTURE. No matter where you look, every company is scrambling to migrate all their data on the Cloud, so that it can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Think of Cloud as a Backup CD or Floppy Drive (if you still use them), that you can carry with you wherever you go. Just pop the CD and continue working on whatever project you were working on. It’s simple, and Highly Efficient.
One of the biggest challenges you’ll ever face as an Entrepreneur/Investor, is finding the right people to work with. Without a passionate and dedicated TEAM, no matter how much money you invest, you can never quite achieve the level of success that you first envisioned when you started your own business. These days, the latest trend among Individuals and Wall Street Investors alike, is Mobile Apps. No matter where you go or who you talk to, everyone wants to jump in the Mobile Apps business with both hands and feet. And even though many of them have the money and adequate resources, very few are successful, partly because they don’t have a dedicated team of people working for them, or in some cases, a significant lack of knowledge.
Although this might sound a bit counter-intuitive, since we are in the business of App Development, I thought it would be nice to shed some light on the problems, standards, and the quality of apps that are listed on the Google Play marketplace for Android Apps. Compared to Apple, the quality of apps, not all, but certainly a (un)-healthy majority, listed on the Google Play store is pretty pedestrian to say the least. The reason being, anyone, even someone who learned coding watching YouTube videos, can list their apps on the Google Play store with little to no quality checks. As a matter of fact, any and all apps that are submitted to the Google Play store are automatically published without any legitimate formal review; which if you ask me is extremely frustrating for the end user, because they don’t really know exactly what it is that they are downloading .i.e Malware, Virus, etc… Because unlike Apple’s iOS, the Android platform can be hacked, thus giving unauthorized access to hackers, who can then use backdoors to access personal information stored on your Android device.
