One of the biggest challenges you’ll ever face as an Entrepreneur/Investor, is finding the right people to work with. Without a passionate and dedicated TEAM, no matter how much money you invest, you can never quite achieve the level of success that you first envisioned when you started your own business. These days, the latest trend among Individuals and Wall Street Investors alike, is Mobile Apps. No matter where you go or who you talk to, everyone wants to jump in the Mobile Apps business with both hands and feet. And even though many of them have the money and adequate resources, very few are successful, partly because they don’t have a dedicated team of people working for them, or in some cases, a significant lack of knowledge.
One of the most important elements of a great App Development Team, are the App Developers. Without exceptional App Developers, you won’t make it too far in the Mobile Apps business. Now many people will be quick to point out that when it comes to Apps, 80% is Marketing and only 20% is the actual App itself. Although that statement is partially true in the Short-Term, in the Long-Term, your App will suffer because of all the negative reviews and publicity; you don’t want that, unless you’re an App peddler who inflates (fakes) the App downloads in order to gain a favorable Ranking, and then dumps the App on some unsuspecting Investor. The point being, in the Long-Term, the QUALITY ALWAYS WINS.
Couple things to keep in mind when hiring an App Developer:
1) Take your time. Do your research. The chances are, you’ll probably be working with the guy/girl for a long time. So you want to be sure that you get it right the first time. Because trust me, it’s really hard to start from scratch. This is a fast moving business, and an idea that is relevant today, might become obsolete tomorrow. So TAKE YOUR TIME.
2) Ask them to show their portfolio, examples of their previous projects. The reason this is very important is because this will give you an idea of their style of Coding.
3) Remember: Quality over Quantity. If your developer is REALLY Good, don’t low-ball him/her. Never negotiate when it comes to Quality. If your developer can deliver exceptional quality, PAY HIM/HER the money they deserve. They’ve earned it. There’s no point in fighting over few dollars, because in the long run, if your developer is Happy, he’ll enjoy working on your projects, which translates to exceptional quality, which in turn translates to REAL Tangible Dollars in your bank account.
So, In conclusion, I’ll just say this:
Take your time; find the right app developer; and pay him/her the money they deserve.
Best of Luck.
