App Store Keywords – The How To Guide

This is more of an informational blog post, than a 100 page guide. Well, you can classify it under the 1 Page How To Guide category. Either way, I’ll be sharing probably the most important App Marketing Strategy that there is: Keyword Targeting.

As simple as it might sound, Keywords can literally make or break your App. If you’re someone who simply develops an App, and puts it on the App Store, without any external marketing efforts .i.e Social Media Marketing, Website, SEO, etc… Keywords are your bread and butter. Without Keywords, users won’t be able to find your App on the iTunes App Store, thus rendering all your efforts and hard work, futile.

App Marketing Strategy – Social Media Campaigns

Social Media Sharing

Let’s just say you developed a great App, the App was approved by iTunes, and now the App is LIVE on the iTunes App Store – now what? The App isn’t going to sell itself. You need to promote it; get the word out so the people know that your App exists on the iTunes App Store.

There are many ways to get the word out, but the most effective one is Social Media Campaigning. We live in a digital age, where information appears to travel faster than the speed of light – thanks to the Social Media revolution that has essentially taken over our lives. No matter what you think about Social Media, one thing is for certain: It is one of the fastest ways to disperse information and drive traffic to your Website or Products – which eventually might convert into actual tangible Sales.

App Store Optimization (ASO) – Keywords

If you are an Online Entrepreneur or a Website Owner, chances are, you might have heard of the phrase: Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

SEO is basically designing your website and structuring your content in a way that makes it easier for Search Engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc…) to find your content, and rank it for specific keywords; for example. Best iPhone Apps or Best Games For iPhone. You get the idea. Of course there are a Billion other things that you need to do in order to achieve that, but the ultimate goal is to rank on the 1st page for whatever keywords you’re targeting. Anytime you have a Search Engine, you have Algorithms (Computer Programs/Bots) that are specifically looking for certain things in your content; more importantly the Keywords. This is true for ALL search engines .i.e. Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc… Now, what most people don’t seem to realize is that the iTunes App Store is also a Search Engine; it’s a Search Engine for Apps. The iTunes App Store also has its own proprietary Algorithm that ranks the Apps based on certain pre-programmed criteria. And just like you would for your website, you have to Optimize your Apps’ page in order to rank well on the iTunes App Store, which ultimately results in more traffic and more sales.

Will Touch ID Fingerprint Scanner Help or Hurt Apple In The Long Run?

Fingerprint ID Scanner iPhone Apple

In case most of y’all haven’t heard, Apple recently introduced a Fingerprint Scanning feature for the iPhone 5s. In think it’s safe to assume that moving forward all Apple devices will have this fingerprint scanning feature built-in. The idea behind this new feature is to make the iPhone safer and prevent any unauthorized access to the device. As such, if the Touch ID is Enabled, no one but the owner of the iPhone will be able to access it; which is all fair and good on the surface, but there are some serious unintended consequences.

The Importance of Cloud Storage In App Development

Hate being redundant, but Cloud Computing is the FUTURE. No matter where you look, every company is scrambling to migrate all their data on the Cloud, so that it can be accessed from anywhere in the world. Think of Cloud as a Backup CD or Floppy Drive (if you still use them), that you can carry with you wherever you go. Just pop the CD and continue working on whatever project you were working on. It’s simple, and Highly Efficient.

Hiring The Right App Developer

One of the biggest challenges you’ll ever face as an Entrepreneur/Investor, is finding the right people to work with. Without a passionate and dedicated TEAM, no matter how much money you invest, you can never quite achieve the level of success that you first envisioned when you started your own business. These days, the latest trend among Individuals and Wall Street Investors alike, is Mobile Apps. No matter where you go or who you talk to, everyone wants to jump in the Mobile Apps business with both hands and feet. And even though many of them have the money and adequate resources, very few are successful, partly because they don’t have a dedicated team of people working for them, or in some cases, a significant lack of knowledge.

The Market for Android Apps Is Getting Too Crowded

Although this might sound a bit counter-intuitive, since we are in the business of App Development, I thought it would be nice to shed some light on the problems, standards, and the quality of apps that are listed on the Google Play marketplace for Android Apps. Compared to Apple, the quality of apps, not all, but certainly a (un)-healthy majority, listed on the Google Play store is pretty pedestrian to say the least. The reason being, anyone, even someone who learned coding watching YouTube videos, can list their apps on the Google Play store with little to no quality checks. As a matter of fact, any and all apps that are submitted to the Google Play store are automatically published without any legitimate formal review; which if you ask me is extremely frustrating for the end user, because they don’t really know exactly what it is that they are downloading .i.e Malware, Virus, etc… Because unlike Apple’s iOS, the Android platform can be hacked, thus giving unauthorized access to hackers, who can then use backdoors to access personal information stored on your Android device.

The Average Approval Time For iTunes App Store

As more and more people/businesses start developing and publishing their apps on the iTunes App Store, the average wait times for approval are expected to lengthen. Despite its $150+ Billion in cash treasure trove, it is truly shocking that Apple still hasn’t figured out a way to speed-up its App Approval process. Currently, it takes about 2 weeks for an App to get approved for distribution on the iTunes App Store. And although for an outsider that might not seem a lot, in the fast-paced business of Apps, 2 weeks is an eternity. A lot can happen in 2 weeks. Someone can steal your idea in 2 weeks; your idea might not be relevant in 2 weeks; someone publishes a better version of your idea in 2 weeks; you get the point. But to be fair to Apple, the longer wait times do help in eliminating some of the spam/garbage apps, thus making sure that the end users get the best possible product.

How Much Does App Development Cost?

Whether you are a budding Entrepreneur or just someone curious about the process of App Development, Distribution, and Marketing, I believe the information I’m about to share in this blog post will definitely help you better understand the REAL COSTS of developing a successful app.

To give you a brief background about myself, I’m a former Wall Street Trader turned Online Entrepreneur. So if there’s anything that I understand, it’s NUMBERS. My job as a Trader was to Identify Opportunities, Do Extensive Research, Project The Best Possible Outcome, Buy/Sell The Financial Instrument (Stocks, Options, Futures, etc…) At The Best Available Price, and make sure that I Hedge my risk. I took these same principles of Trading and applied them to App Development.
