This is more of an informational blog post, than a 100 page guide. Well, you can classify it under the 1 Page How To Guide category. Either way, I’ll be sharing probably the most important App Marketing Strategy that there is: Keyword Targeting.
As simple as it might sound, Keywords can literally make or break your App. If you’re someone who simply develops an App, and puts it on the App Store, without any external marketing efforts .i.e Social Media Marketing, Website, SEO, etc… Keywords are your bread and butter. Without Keywords, users won’t be able to find your App on the iTunes App Store, thus rendering all your efforts and hard work, futile.
There are couple different ways you can approach Keywords. My personal favorite is probably the simplest one:
App and Category specific keywords.
Here’s how it works:
For the purpose of this blog post, we’ll use the Duck Dynamite Slots – Free Casino Slots Game app that I’ve developed.
App: Casino Slots Game
Category: Games, Arcade, Gambling, Adult
You see what I did there.
Always keep it simple.
The above Keywords are Simple, and perfectly describe what your App is about.
Use Keywords that people generally use in their day-to-day life.
Also, as you can see, I’ve used Single Keywords, as opposed to entire phrases. That’s very important. Apple only allows a limited number of characters for Keywords; so make sure to use them wisely.
The other way you can find some good App and Category specific keywords to target, is Google Keyword Planner.
The Google Keyword Planner one of the best Keyword Suggestion Tool out there; it gives you keyword ideas and also gives you the average monthly search volume for those keywords.
No matter which method you chose, always remember:
Keep it SIMPLE stupid.
