I’m yet to meet a person in this world who doesn’t love to Travel and experience new places/cultures. I myself am a huge Travel nerd, and I make it a point to visit a new City every year. Last year I visited Prague (Czech Republic). It was the most beautiful experience of my life. And all this couldn’t have been possible with my personal Travel Guides .i.e. The Travel Apps on my iPhone.

Everything, from booking the Flight, to checking into the Hotel, to visiting the Must See Tourist Attractions, to communicating in their native language, can now be done just with a few taps on your iPhone. There’s literally an App for every possible scenario that one can imagine.

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing a list of the Travel Apps that I personally use to make my life much easier when I’m Travelling; not just domestically, but also internationally.

Note: All the Apps on this list are exceptionally well designed, and are truly the Best Travel Apps For iPhone – as such, they are arranged in no particular order.

So, without further ado, here is a list of the Best Travel Apps For iPhone:

1) KAYAK

This one’s a no-brainer. You want to go somewhere? You need a way to get there. More often than not, Air Travel is probably the most convenient ways to travel – Domestic and International. So, you’ll need to book a flight. You can either go to 10 different websites and check/compare the prices for each individual flight; or you can simply download the KAYAK App and just plug-in your destination. The App will do the rest. The KAYAK App will give you the best possible flights available, and it also gives you a comparison matrix so that you can compare all the different flights and choose the one that best suits you. The KAYAK App is a MUST for everyone – whether you are a regular traveler or not, it is always good to have the KAYAK App on your phone. You never know when you might need it.

Grade: A+

2) TripAdvisor

The Trip Advisor App is a great App for booking hotels. Trip Advisor is one of the oldest and the most respected travel websites, with honest and trust-worthy reviews from millions of users. The App is no different. The Trip Advisor App gives you all the best hotels around the world, with prices, user submitted pictures, and reviews. It doesn’t get any better than this. Another MUST Have App for all iPhone users.

Grade: A+

3) TripAdvisor Offline City Guides

Now that you’ve finally reached your destination of choice, you need a Travel Guide that’ll help make the most out of your vacation/trip. That is when the Trip Advisor City Guides App comes into play. This App is beyond perfect. All you have to do is, before you leave, just download the City Guide for the City that you’re visiting – For Example: New York, Paris, London, Berlin, etc… And that’s it. The App will give you a list of all the MUST SEE Tourist Attractions in that city, with user submitted pictures, and honest reviews. You can easily sort/filter the Tourist Attractions based on your criteria; and best of all, the App works OFFLINE. So even if you’re in a place where the reception and internet connectivity are really poor, you can rest assured that you have an App that will guide you every step of the way.

Grade: A

4) Google Translate

Unless you’re some sort of Savant, chances are, you probably only know a handful of languages. This can become a predicament when you’re in a place where people don’t necessarily speak or understand the languages that you’re accustomed to speaking. Luckily, there’s an App that’ll help you communicate effectively no matter where you are: The Google Translate App.

The Google Translate App is Voice-Based. All you have to do is talk into your microphone, and the App will automatically translate your words/sentences into whatever language you want them to be translated to.

Grade: A+

5) XE Currency

The minute you step outside the boundaries of the United States, you can no longer use the USD (Dollar) to purchases Goods and Services. You have to exchange the USD for the local currency, at whatever exchange rate is in effect at that moment. Now, many people don’t realize this, or maybe they simply don’t care, but the Currency Exchange Rate can have a huge impact on your travel plans, as it can sometimes limit your ability to spend freely. What I mean by that is: If you visit Europe when the currency exchange rate is $1 = .70 Euro, you’ll need $5 to purchase a box of French Chocolates (3.5 Euro), as opposed to when the currency exchange rate is $1 = .80 Euro – in which case you’ll need approximately $4.38.

I understand that this might be a bit confusing to some people, but thankfully, there’s an App that gives you the most Up-To-Date (LIVE) Exchange Rates for hundreds of currencies: The XE Currency Converter App For iPhone.

All you have to do is plug-in the amount of Dollars you want to convert, and the App tell you exactly how much your Dollars are worth in the local currency of the country that you’re visiting.

Grade: A+. Highly Recommend.

6) Flightradar24 PRO

The Flightradar24 PRO is one of those Apps that you think you’ll never need, until you do. It’s an excellent App and an even better travel companion. I first came across the Flightradar24 PRO App when I was suppose to pickup my Girlfriend from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), whose flight just so happened to be delayed by 4 Hrs. There was a huge snowstorm approaching the New York/New Jersey area, and the flight that my GF was on was stuck in Air-Traffic. The plane simply couldn’t find a parking spot. Now, since I was on the ground, I didn’t know that. I started sh**ting bricks and getting paranoid, fearing for the worse possible scenario. Being an App Developer, no matter what situation I’m in, my first instinct is always to go on the iTunes App Store and see if there’s an App that’ll help me get the answers that I’m looking for. So I typed in the Keywords “Flight Tracker” and “Flight Radar”. The first App that popped up was Flightradar24 PRO – I proceeded to download the App and voila! My prayers were answered. The App told me exactly where my GF’s flight was, the estimated time of arrival, the altitude, the speed, etc… it was simply fascinating.

The Flightradar24 PRO App gives you Real-Time Flight Data.

Here’s how the Flightradar24 PRO Works:

Most aircraft today are equipped with so called ADS-B transponders that transmit positional data. Flightradar24 has a rapidly growing network of several thousand ground stations around the world to receive this data that then shows up as aircraft moving on a map in the app. In an expanding number of regions Flightradar24, with the help of multilateration, is able to calculate the positions of aircraft that don’t have ADS-B transponders.

Traditional radar data is also used in the app thanks to a direct feed from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This data provides near real-time coverage of all US and Canadian airspace.

Grade: A+. Highly Recommended For All iPhone and iPad Users.

And there you have it.
