Let’s just say you developed a great App, the App was approved by iTunes, and now the App is LIVE on the iTunes App Store – now what? The App isn’t going to sell itself. You need to promote it; get the word out so the people know that your App exists on the iTunes App Store.

There are many ways to get the word out, but the most effective one is Social Media Campaigning. We live in a digital age, where information appears to travel faster than the speed of light – thanks to the Social Media revolution that has essentially taken over our lives. No matter what you think about Social Media, one thing is for certain: It is one of the fastest ways to disperse information and drive traffic to your Website or Products – which eventually might convert into actual tangible Sales.

From my personal experience, the best Social Media platform to market your Apps is Twitter – The micro-blogging site. I’ve found that compared to Facebook, users are more active on Twitter, and as a result, you can drive some legitimate traffic at just fraction of the cost.

There are two ways to advertise your Apps on Twitter:

1) Twitter Ads –

Twitter allows users to promote certain Tweets to a targeted audience. Just like Google has AdWords, Twitter has Twitter Ads. All you got to do is Register, Set a Budget, Set Your Daily Budget, and that’s it. Just select the Tweet you want to promote (with your Apps’ URL), select your Target Audience (iPhone/Android Users) so that only those users will be able to see your Tweet, and Add the keywords that you want your Tweet to show up for. It’s pretty simple actually. You get charged every time a user interacts with your Tweet .i.e Clicks on you Link, Favorites Your Tweet, Retweets Your Tweet, etc…

On average, Twitter Ads cost around 5 to 6 cents per user interaction. You don’t get charged for Ad Impressions.

Here’s how I setup my Twitter Ad Campaign:

Total Budget: $100

Daily Budget: $10

Max. Bid: 40 Cents

Don’t worry, you won’t be charged 40 Cents per click. That’s just your Maximum Bid. The average comes to around 5 to 6 Cents per interaction – which is not bad at all. You can drive Thousands of targeted users to your App page on the iTunes App Store. Of course, Traffic does not necessarily equal Sales; but at least you’re getting the word out. Now people know about your XYZ App, which is more than enough.

Also, as a side note: Driving traffic to your App Page DOES help with the Rankings on the iTunes App Store.

2) Promoted Tweets by Popular/Famous Users (1+ Million Followers) –

The other way to promote your Apps on Twitter is by paying a Popular/Famous User who has more than 1+ Million Followers, to promote your Apps to his/her followers. This method requires a lot of effort, and you have to manually find users that fit the criteria and then send them an Email to see if they’d be willing to promote your Apps.

A really easy way to find these users who do PAID Tweets, is by Searching “Business Inquires” on Twitter, and then clicking on People on the left sidebar. These users usually have an Email Address in their Twitter Bio.

Find the users that fit your criteria and send them an email. You’ll have to send an email to about 20-30 different people, after which 2-3 will respond. Keep in mind, since these guys have their emails available to the public, they get a lot of Fan and Spam emails. You’ll just need to be patient.

On average, these users with 1+ Million Twitter Followers charge around $100 per Tweet. That’s not bad, considering the potential exposure your Apps will get.

Although you can try other Social Media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Imgur, Reddit, etc… I believe Twitter is by far the most effective Social Media platform out there.
